The Hospital’s Health: The Westerly Hospital, bleeding red for a number of years, posted its largest-ever deficit – nearly $6 million for the 2007 fiscal year that ended Sept. 30. And the CEO/President Charles S. Kinney urged corporators at the annual meeting in December to lobby their state and federal lawmakers to get relief through legislation that could boost the hospital’s reimbursements and bring other reforms.
Anderson County Council won’t budge on incentives for Kohl’s ...
It's nice to know that these 4 County Council Representatives don't care about new jobs in Anderson County and they don't care about the City of Anderson getting almost a half million dollars in new revenue. All they care about is their own personal agendas. When the 4 of you run for re-election I will be supporting whoever runs against you, at least there is a chance that they will care about the residents of this county. And stop using the water cost as a crutch for your own agenda. The county people want city water but they don't want to pay city property taxes. They cannot have their cake and eat it to. City residents should NOT have to absorb the cost of running water lines out into the county. If you want CITY WATER in the County than you better expect to pay for it. .
Spinster celebrates her 110th thanks to whisky and onions
She has seen three centuries, six monarchs and twenty-one prime ministers, and was a teenager when the Titanic sank. Today, Minnie Smith celebrates her 110th birthday. Miss Smith is on her way to being the oldest woman to have lived in Britain, the record having been set by Eva Morris, who died in 2000 six days short of her 115th birthday. Miss Smith, who is now blind and largely deaf, attributes her longevity to regular consumption of whisky and boiled onions. It may be relevant that she never married or had children. During the Great War she had a crush on an Australian soldier called Noddy, but her mother forbade her to pursue him. To this day a photograph rests on the dressing table at her Salvation Army retirement home in South London. She is not the oldest living Briton.
The Life and Times of Marie Benoit
His mother made him a delicious chocolate cake but he was not allowed to have even the smallest of pieces. With his father there I wasnt able to give him a few crumbs and instead, he loved Suzys delicious Salmon Mousse. I made loads of coloured sandwiches which is a tradition as my mother used to make them for us, I made them for my children in Mauritius and now I enjoyed making them for Harry. They were filled with love, parsley, cheese, eggs, mayonnaise and more love. He seemed to enjoy the savoury bits and pieces. I also made Peter Dacoutros Mortadella bread, from one of his recipe books. To my utter astonishment I got it right, first time round. I usually have to make a new recipe three or four times and poison a few people before it is edible and resembles the photo. I told Peter, proudly, of my latest achievement and he said that I should also try it with Salmon instead of Mortadella.
Kaduce races to the finish
Kaduce is now in the final leg of the 2008 Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race, an over 1,000 mile trek from Fairbanks, Alaska to Whitehorse, Yukon in Canada. He started Saturday and will likely finish within the next few days.Anxiously keeping up with the race is his mother, Meg Thorton of Chippewa Falls."I'm on my Internet constantly," she said. "I get up in the middle of the night to check the Internet."Although Kaduce's finished the race twice before, Thorton has concerns. There are long legs in the races where racers may not reach a checkpoint for hours at a time, and sledding can be dangerous. One woman had to quit the race Tuesday because of a knee injury."A mother always worries about her kids," she said.A love for the unusualDog sledding wasn't always a dream of Kaduce's.He grew up loving dogs and the outdoors, but he had never been exposed to the sport, which is popular in Alaska and Canada. But Thorton wasn't shocked when she heard her son had started racing."It didn't surprise me really," Thorton said.
