Coast Guard IDs two who died in capsizing off Oregon coast
HAMMOND, Ore. -- The Coast Guard has identified two men who whose bodies were recovered after a boat crabbing off the northern Oregon coast capsized. They are 54-year-old James Nibler of Salem and 52-year-old Curtis Heuer of Newberg. The Coast Guard suspended a six-hour search at nightfall Saturday and had not found a third man: Nibler's 41-year-old brother, Lawrence. Expected survivability was estimated at four hours. Bob Coster, search and rescue coordinator at the Coast Guard's Astoria station, says it appears a crab-pot line got tangled on an outboard motor, destabilizing the 16-foot vessel. .
Apple negotiates for Thai iPhone rights
Apple's latest attempt at negotiating international distribution of the iPhone is in Thailand, according to reports. Reuters cites Prattana Leelapanang, the assistant VP of wireless business marketing for Thailand's Advanced Info Service (AIS); according to Leelapanang, his company is already discussing the details of an arrangement with Apple, including revenue sharing. The last point is particularly notable, as neither Apple nor its telecom partners have in the past admitted to revenue sharing, although it is a widely accepted fact amongst analysts. AIS owns approximately 50 percent of the Thai cellular market, at 24.5 million subscribers. It is not known when the iPhone might premiere with AIS, but there is unlikely to be a rush, as the company is still planning a test of 3G broadband services.

December 9, 1982 - Phillies pay deep price for Tribe Phenom: This is a trade that actually worked out well for the Indians as they sent red hot outfield prospect Von Hayes to the Phillies for veteran 2B Manny Trillo, OF George Vukovich, C Jerry Willard, P Jay Baller, and SS Julio Franco. Of course, Franco was the big prize for the Tribe in this trade and provided a combination of speed and power at the plate for the Indians for a period of six seasons before being dealt to the Texas Rangers in 1988. Hayes, on the other hand, never quite reached his potential as a member of the Phillies.
